In the Begining

As a child a good proportion of my bedroom was taken up by a huge wooden board with selection of carefully placed Hornby 00 track pinned to it. I spent hours connecting point motors and signals and taking apart engines to attach my Zero 1 modulators so that I could run more than one train on a single track.

Imagine my disappointment when my childhood came to an end. I moved into a house with my wife, a child and a dog. No longer was there room or time for that large piece of wood which, now broken down into its core components, lay forgotten in the loft.

Along came Railworks. A train set that took up no room and promised to give just as much fun. The skill set was different. Now I would have to learn 3d computer modelling and texture. Was I up to the task?

As I played with the routes that came with the game and downloaded more routes that had been built by other users I started to get the bug. I wanted to start creating a route of my own, but which one would I choose. I went back to my childhood. Living in Thornton Dale I was just down the road from the North Yorkshire Moors railway. Starting at Pickering and winding its way through 18 miles of some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK it passes through Goathland and finally arrives at Grosmont. I knew that the route had already been modeled and released as Heartbeat Moor but it didnt matter. This was the route for me.
